Article 30 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

This project aims to examine and promote the right of persons with disabilities in areas of education, culture, and other forms of intellectual, artistic or athletic pursuits. Our research works primarily focus on the development of these areas and legal updates relating to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

ARTICLE 30 OF THE CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) defines persons with disabilities to include "those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others".

Article 30 of the CRPD on the 'participation in cultural life, recreation, leisure and sport' further provides that State Parties to the CRPD shall, among other things,

1. ....recognize the right of persons with disabilities to take part on equal basis with others in cultural life...

2. .... enable persons with disabilities to have the opportunity to develop and utilize their creative, artistic and intellectual potential, not only for their own benefit, but also for the enrichment of society.

On this basis, we strongly believe that every person with disabilities shall have the opportunity to realise their potential, and to pursue their self-fulfilment.
